The Company Data Request is also submitted through the CH XML Gateway, but I don’t see it listed at http://xmlalpha.companieshouse.gov.uk/validation_html/index.html.

In the event that my Company Data Request submission contains an unrecognised Company Number or Company Authentication Code, what second layer of validation is applied to the Company Data Request submission?

The request you send in only has company name and authcode there isnt anything else for us to validate against, here are two examples for authcode and company error.
