OfficerChangeDetails Director Validation

As part of process to update a director’s details the directors name and DOB are submitted outside of the change element as a way to identify the director to be updated.
During a live test of this process I submitted an incorrect DOB on a change request, this wasn’t validated or checked at any stage and from contacting Companies House enquires doesn’t seem to matter.

Given this information why is this field required and how do you identify which director to update, especially if the names are the same/simmiler?
